The Rolling (Al-Takweer)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
When the sun shall be wound round, 1 And when the stars darken, 2 When the mountains vanish (like a mirage); 3 When the she-camels, ten months with young, are left untended; 4 And when the wild beasts shall be gathered together; 5 When the oceans surge and swell, 6 when the souls are coupled (to their body), 7 And when the girl buried alive shall be asked: 8 Upon what sin was she killed for. 9 the records of deeds are made public, 10 the heavens are unveiled, 11 and Hell is stoked, 12 And when Paradise is brought near, 13 then every soul will discover the consequence of its deeds. 14 So verily, I swear by the planets that recede (i.e. disappear during the day and appear during the night). 15 The planets withdrawing into themselves, 16 by the night when it approaches 17 And by oath of the morning when it takes birth. 18 Verily it is a Word brought by a messenger honoured, 19 one mighty and held in honour with the Lord of the Throne; 20 there he is obeyed and held trustworthy. 21 And your comrade is not mad. 22 he indeed saw the message-bearer on the clear horizon; 23 And he is not avid of the Unseen. 24 This is not the utterance of an accursed devil. 25 So where are you going? 26 This is a reminder for all the peoples of the world, 27 To whomsoever among you who wills to walk straight, 28 And you will not, unless (it be) that Allah wills, the Lord of the 'Alamin (mankind, jinns and all that exists). 29
