No, by the moon! 32 And the night when on the wane, 33 By the morning when it brighteneth. 34 This is but one of the mighty (portents), 35 A warning to mortals, 36 Unto him of you who will advance or hang back. 37 Every soul is pledged to what it does, 38 except the Companions of the Right. 39 In Gardens, they seek answers, 40 Of evil-doers: 41 What led you into the Scorching Fire? 42 They will answer: We were not of those who prayed 43 Nor did we used to feed the poor. 44 And we used to enter into vain discourse with those who entered into vain discourses. 45 and we cried lies to the Day of Doom, 46 till the certainty (death) overtook us' 47 And so, of no benefit to them could be the intercession of any that would intercede for them. 48 So what is the matter with them that they turn away from the advice? 49 like frightened donkeys 50 Fleeing from a hunter, or a lion, or a beast of prey. 51 Is it that everyone of them wants to receive a heavenly book addressed to him personally? 52 Nay, but they do not [believe in and hence, do not] fear the life to come. 53 Nay, verily. Lo! this is an Admonishment. 54 Then whoever wills will remember it. 55 But they [who do not believe in the life to come] will not take it to heart unless God so wills: [for] He is the Fount of all God-consciousness, and the Fount of all forgiveness. 56
