The Rolling (Al-Takweer)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
(On the day) when the sun is made to cease shining, 1 And when the stars fall, 2 And when the mountains are removed 3 When the she-camels, ten months with young, are left untended; 4 And when the wild beasts are herded together, 5 when the seas are set boiling, 6 souls are reunited with their bodies, 7 And when the girl-child that was buried alive is asked 8 such as, "For what crime were they murdered?" 9 and when the scrolls [of men's deeds] are unfolded, 10 And when the sky is torn away, 11 And when Hellfire is set ablaze 12 and Paradise brought nigh: 13 then shall each person know what he has brought along. 14 I swear by the receding stars, 15 the planets that run their course and set, 16 And the close of night, 17 And the breath of morning 18 This is indeed the recitation of an honoured Noble Messenger. (Angel Jibreel – peace and blessings be upon him.) 19 Owner of strength, of established dignity with the Lord of the Throne. 20 With authority there, (and) faithful to his trust. 21 Your Companion is not mad, 22 He certainly saw him (Gabriel) high up on the horizon in his original form 23 He is not chary of making public what is unknown. 24 Nor is this [message] the word of any satanic force accursed. 25 Whither, then, will you go? 26 It is naught but a reminder for the nations, 27 For the one among you who wishes to become upright. 28 But you cannot will it unless God, the Lord of the Universe, so wills it [to show you that way]. 29
