I say the truth, and call the moon to witness, 32 And [by] the night when it departs 33 and the morn when it dawns! 34 This is but one of the mighty (portents), 35 A warning to mankind, 36 alike to every one of you, who want to go forward or hang back. 37 [On the Day of Judgment,] every human being will be held in pledge for whatever [evil] he has wrought 38 Except the people of the right hand, 39 In Gardens; they shall be asking, 40 From the guilty. 41 "What was it that brought you to Hell?" 42 and they shall reply, "We were not among those who prayed; 43 "Nor were we of those who fed the indigent; 44 “And used to dwell on evil matters with those who think evilly.” 45 And we used to call the day of judgment a lie; 46 Till death overtook us. 47 The intercession of their intercessors shall not benefit them. 48 What aileth them, therefore, that they are from the admonition turning away? 49 As if they were alarmed donkeys 50 fleeing from a lion? 51 In fact every one of them wants to be given open books (like the prophets). 52 Nay, but they do not [believe in and hence, do not] fear the life to come. 53 No indeed; surely it is a Reminder; 54 So whoever wills may heed advice from it. 55 And they will not mind unless Allah please. He is worthy to be feared and worthy to forgive. 56
