The Human (Al-Insan)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
There was certainly a time when there was no mention of the human being. 1 Verily We created man from a sperm yoked (to the ovum) to bring out his real substance, then gave him hearing and sight. 2 We showed him the Way: whether he be grateful or ungrateful (rests on his will). 3 We have prepared for unbelievers chains and collars and a blazing fire. 4 The virtuous ones will drink from a cup containing camphor 5 a fountain whereat drink the servants of God, making it to gush forth plenteously. 6 They fulfil their vows, and fear a day whose evil is upon the wing; 7 And they give food out of love for Him to the poor and the orphan and the captive: 8 saying, "We feed you for the sake of God alone, we seek neither recompense nor thanks from you. 9 for we fear from our Lord a stern, frownful Day' 10 So God will protect them from the evil of that day, and grant them happiness and joy, 11 And their recompense shall be Paradise, and silken garments, because they were patient. 12 There they will recline on elevated couches and will be subjected neither to the burning heat of the sun nor to bitter cold. 13 And the shade thereof is close upon them, and the bunches of fruit thereof will hang low within their reach. 14 and there shall be passed around them vessels of silver, and goblets of crystal, 15 crystal-like, [but] of silver - the measure whereof they alone will determine. 16 And therein they shall be given to drink of a cup whereof the admixture will be ginger. 17 therein a fountain whose name is called Salsabil. 18 ۞ Immortal youths shall surround them, waiting upon them; when you see them, you would think they are scattered pearls. 19 wherever you look, you will see bliss and a great kingdom: 20 Upon them shall be green garments of silk and brocade; they are adorned with bracelets of silver, and their Lord shall give them to drink a pure draught. 21 Behold, this is your recompense and your endeavour has been appreciated. 22
