The Human (Al-Insan)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
Has there [not] come upon man a period of time when he was not a thing [even] mentioned? 1 Verily We created man from a sperm yoked (to the ovum) to bring out his real substance, then gave him hearing and sight. 2 We showed him the right path whether he would be grateful or ungrateful. 3 We have indeed kept prepared chains, and shackles and a blazing fire for the disbelievers. 4 Indeed, the righteous will drink from a cup [of wine] whose mixture is of Kafur, 5 a fountain whereat drink the servants of God, making it to gush forth plenteously. 6 They perform (their) vows, and they fear a Day whose evil flies far and wide. 7 they give food, despite their love for it, to the poor and orphans and captives, 8 (Saying),"We feed you for the sake of Allah alone: no reward do we desire from you, nor thanks. 9 “Indeed we fear from our Lord a day which is extremely bitter, most severe.” 10 Therefore, God will ward off from them the woes of that Day, and make them find brightness and joy, 11 And will reward them for what they patiently endured [with] a garden [in Paradise] and silk [garments]. 12 Reclining in it, upon thrones; they will not see the hot sunshine in it, nor the bitter cold. 13 The shade thereof is close upon them and the clustered fruits thereof bow down. 14 And amongst them will be passed round vessels of silver and goblets of crystal,- 15 goblets bright as crystal but made of silver, filled to exact measure. 16 And therein they shall be given to drink a cup whose mixture is ginger, 17 drawn from a spring (in Paradise) called Salsabil. 18 ۞ And boys of everlasting youth will go about attending them. Looking at them you would think that they were pearls dispersed. 19 when thou seest them then thou seest bliss and a great kingdom. 20 Upon the inhabitants will be green garments of fine silk and brocade. And they will be adorned with bracelets of silver, and their Lord will give them a purifying drink. 21 Behold, this is a recompense for you, and your striving is thanked.' 22
