The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ What are they asking (one another)? 1 Concerning the Great News, 2 concerning which they have disputes. 3 (What they think is certainly despicable!). They will soon come to know (the reality). 4 Nay! Nay! they shall soon know. 5 Have We not made the earth a resting place? 6 and fixed the mountains like pegs, 7 And We created you in pairs, 8 and gave you repose in sleep, 9 and We made the night a mantle, 10 and We made the day for a livelihood. 11 We raised over you several secure (skies), 12 (the sun) as a shining torch 13 And sent down, from the rain clouds, pouring water 14 so that We might bring forth thereby grain, and herbs, 15 and gardens dense with foliage. 16 Indeed, the Day of Decision is an appointed time, 17 The Day the Horn is blown and you will come forth in multitudes 18 And the heaven is opened and will become gateways 19 and the mountains are set in motion, and become a vapour. 20 Surely hell lies in wait, 21 For the exorbitant a receptacle. 22 Where they will remain for aeons, 23 tasting therein neither coolness nor any drink 24 Save a boiling fluid and a fluid, dark, murky, intensely cold, 25 a fitting requital, 26 For lo! they looked not for a reckoning; 27 But they (impudently) treated Our Signs as false. 28 And everything We have recorded in a book. 29 So taste (the fruit of what you sowed), for We shall add nothing but torment, 30
