The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ OF WHAT ARE they asking one another? 1 About the awesome tiding [of resurrection,] 2 About which they are in disagreement. 3 Indeed, they shall know! 4 Again, no indeed; they shall soon know! 5 Have We not made the earth as a bed, 6 And the mountains as pegs? 7 And We have created you in pairs (male and female, tall and short, good and bad, etc.). 8 made sleep for you to rest, 9 and We appointed night for a garment, 10 and made the day for earning a livelihood. 11 And We have builded over you seven strong heavens. 12 And have appointed a dazzling lamp, 13 And We send down from the clouds water pouring forth abundantly, 14 so that We may thereby bring forth grain and vegetation, 15 and thick gardens grow? 16 Indeed the Day of Decision is a time fixed. 17 The day the trumpet blast is sounded you will come in hordes; 18 The heavens will have openings like doors. 19 And the hills are set in motion and become as a mirage. 20 Truly Hell is as a place of ambush, 21 a goal for all who are wont to transgress the bounds of what is right! 22 there, they shall live for ages, 23 they shall taste in it no coolness, nor any pleasant drink 24 save boiling water and wash of the wounds; 25 , A fitting reward. 26 They indeed hoped not for a reckoning, 27 and roundly denied Our Signs as false. 28 We have kept account of everything in a book. 29 [So We shall say], "Taste, then, [the fruit of your evil doings,] for now We shall bestow on you nothing but more and more suffering!" 30
