The News (Al-Naba')
40 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej) before The Snatchers (Al-Naze'aat)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ Of what do they question one another? 1 Of the mighty tiding 2 About which they are in disagreement. 3 No! They are going to know. 4 Nay, again, they will come to know! 5 Have We not spread the earth like a bed, 6 And the high hills bulwarks? 7 We created you in pairs, 8 And made your sleep [a means for] rest 9 And have appointed the night as a cloak, 10 and the day as time for you to make a living? 11 And We have built above you seven strong ones, 12 and have placed [therein the sun,] a lamp full of blazing splendour. 13 And We send down from the clouds water pouring forth abundantly, 14 so that We may thereby bring forth grain and vegetation, 15 And orchards full of trees and interlacing boughs. 16 Indeed the Day of Decision is a time fixed. 17 It is a Day whereon the trumpet will be blown, and ye will come in multitudes. 18 And the heavens shall be opened as if there were doors, 19 The mountains will be driven away and become like mirages. 20 Indeed, Hell has been lying in wait 21 A home for the rebellious. 22 In it shall they remain for a long time. 23 They will not feel cold nor taste any drink 24 But boiling and intensely cold water, 25 The reward to each is according to what he is. 26 They were those who did not expect a reckoning, 27 and persistently rejected Our revelations. 28 and everything We have numbered in a Book. 29 So taste (the fruit of what you sowed), for We shall add nothing but torment, 30
