The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ About what are they asking one another? 1 About the great event, 2 whereon they are at variance. 3 Nay, but they will come to know! 4 Nay! Nay! they shall soon know. 5 Have We not spread the earth like a bed, 6 and the mountains as pegs? 7 And We have created you in pairs, 8 made sleep for you to rest, 9 and the night as a cover, 10 and the day as time for you to make a living? 11 And (have We not) built over you the seven firmaments, 12 and placed therein a hot, shining lamp, 13 And from the wind-driven clouds We send down waters pouring in abundance, 14 That We may produce therewith corn and vegetables, 15 and gardens dense with follage. 16 Surely, the Day of Judgement has an appointed time. 17 The Day the Horn is blown and you will come forth in multitudes 18 The heavens will have openings like doors. 19 And the mountains will be moved – they will therefore become like mirages. 20 Surely hell lies in wait, 21 a goal for all who are wont to transgress the bounds of what is right! 22 there, they shall live for ages, 23 They will not feel cold nor taste any drink 24 save boiling water and a stinking fluid -- 25 for a suitable recompense. 26 For lo! they looked not for a reckoning; 27 having given the lie to Our messages one and all: 28 But all things We have enumerated in writing. 29 [So We shall say], "Taste, then, [the fruit of your evil doings,] for now We shall bestow on you nothing but more and more suffering!" 30
