The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
۞ OF WHAT ARE they asking one another? 1 Is it about the awesome tiding 2 that they are in utter disagreement? 3 Surely yes, they will soon come to know! 4 Nay! Nay! they shall soon know. 5 Have We not made the earth as a bed, 6 and the mountains [its] pegs? 7 and created you in pairs (as men and women), 8 and made your sleep a means of repose, 9 and We appointed night for a garment, 10 and the day as time for you to make a living? 11 And constructed above you seven strong [heavens] 12 And We made a shining lamp, 13 From the rain clouds We send waters pouring down in abundance, 14 so that We may thereby bring forth grain and vegetation, 15 and gardens dense with foliage. 16 Verily the Day of Sorting out is a thing appointed, 17 the Day that the Horn is blown, and you shall come in crowds 18 And the heaven will be opened – it therefore becomes like gates. 19 The mountains will be driven away and become like mirages. 20 Truly, Hell is a place of ambush, 21 For the exorbitant a receptacle. 22 They will dwell therein for ages. 23 tasting neither coolness nor any drink 24 save boiling water and wash of the wounds; 25 The reward to each is according to what he is. 26 Indeed, they did not hope for a Reckoning, 27 having given the lie to Our messages one and all: 28 We have kept account of everything in a book. 29 Taste therefore. We shall not increase you in aught but torment. 30
