The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
۞ What are they asking (one another)? 1 About the Great News 2 on which they [so utterly] disagree. 3 Nay, but they will come to know! 4 They will indeed come to know soon. 5 Have We not spread the earth like a bed, 6 and raised the mountains like supporting poles? 7 And We have created you in pairs, 8 And made your sleep [a means for] rest 9 And have made the night as a covering (through its darkness), 10 and made the day for earning a livelihood. 11 And We have built above you seven strong ones, 12 and have placed [therein the sun,] a lamp full of blazing splendour. 13 And do We not send down from the clouds water in abundance, 14 Thereby to produce grain and plant, 15 And gardens of luxurious growth? 16 Surely the Day of Decision is an appointed time, 17 On that Day when the trumpet shall be sounded, you shall come in droves, 18 And the heaven is opened and becometh as gates, 19 And the mountains are removed and will be [but] a mirage. 20 Lo! hell lurketh in ambush, 21 a return for the insolent, 22 They will tarry therein for ages. 23 Nothing cool shall they taste therein, nor any drink. 24 But boiling and intensely cold water, 25 , A fitting reward. 26 Surely they feared not the account, 27 They called Our revelations false with strong denial. 28 However, We have recorded everything in a book. 29 Taste therefore. We shall not increase you in aught but torment. 30
