The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
۞ Of what do they ask one another? 1 (Is it) of the great announcement 2 That over which they are in disagreement. 3 Nay, they will come to know! 4 Yes, indeed, before long they will learn all about it. 5 Have We not made the earth as a cradle 6 and the mountains as pegs? 7 And We have created you in pairs; 8 made sleep for you to rest, 9 And have made the night as a covering (through its darkness), 10 And the day for seeking livelihood. 11 And We have built above you seven strong (heavens), 12 And have made (therein) a shinning lamp (sun). 13 And We have sent down from the rain-clouds water plenteous. 14 to make the seeds, plants, 15 and gardens dense with follage. 16 Verily the Day of Decision is a time appointed. 17 The Day when the Trumpet will be blown, and you shall come forth in crowds (groups); 18 The heavens will have openings like doors. 19 And the mountains will be moved – they will therefore become like mirages. 20 Certainly Hell lies in wait, 21 For the exorbitant a receptacle. 22 In which they will remain for ages [unending]. 23 Nothing cool shall they taste therein, nor any drink, 24 except boiling water and pus 25 as a fitting recompense for their deeds. 26 They did not expect such a Judgment 27 and roundly denied Our Signs as false. 28 And everything We have recorded in a book. 29 [And so We shall say:] "Taste, then, [the fruit of your evil doings,] for now We shall bestow on you nothing but more and more suffering!" 30
