The News (Al-Naba')
40 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej) before The Snatchers (Al-Naze'aat)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ Of what do they ask one another? 1 (It is) of the awful tidings, 2 About which they cannot agree. 3 By no means! anon they shall know. 4 And once again: Nay, but in time they will come to understand! 5 Have We not made the earth an expanse. 6 and raised the mountains like supporting poles? 7 And We have created you in pairs, 8 And We made your sleep to be rest (to you), 9 And made the night as a covering, 10 And made the day for seeking livelihood. 11 And built seven strong roofs above you. 12 And We made a shining lamp, 13 And have sent down from the rainy clouds abundant water. 14 In order to produce grain and plants with it. 15 and gardens dense with foliage. 16 Verily the Day of Decision is a time appointed. 17 the day the Trumpet is blown, and you shall come in troops, 18 The heavens will be opened wide and turn into so many doors, 19 And the mountains shall be moved away from their places and they will be as if they were a mirage. 20 Behold, Gehenna has become an ambush, 21 A place of resort for the inordinate, 22 They will tarry therein for ages. 23 tasting neither coolness nor any drink 24 only burning despair and ice-cold darkness: 25 for a suitable recompense. 26 Verily they were wont not to look for a reckoning. 27 But they belied Our Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, and that which Our Prophet (Peace be upon him) brought) completely. 28 And everything We have recorded in a book. 29 (They will be told), "Suffer, We shall only increase the torment for you". 30

When reading the Colorful Quran in English transliterated Arabic mode, you may not notice that there is an algorithm designed to match the pause requirements of the original Arabic scripture, (waqf signs). As you may know, the original Arabic Quran has five main types of pauses, (waqf) signs. (1) Compulsory break, where the transliteration uses a full stop. (2) Optional pause with the preference for pausing, where the transliteration uses a comma that may appear with a probability of two thirds. (3) Optional stop with an equal preference for pausing and resuming, where the transliteration uses a comma that may appear with a half-half probability. (4) Optional pause with the preference for resuming, where the transliteration uses a comma that may appear with a chance of one third. (5) Attraction pause, also called hugging, or (mu’anaka) sign, where it is compulsory to pause at either one of two nearby positions, but not both; where the transliteration inserts a comma at either one of the two locations with a half-half probability.
