The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ OF WHAT ARE they asking one another? 1 (It is) of the awful tidings, 2 About which they differ? 3 But they will soon come to know. 4 Nay, again, they will come to know! 5 Have We not made the earth as a bed, 6 And the mountains as stakes? 7 And We created you in pairs, 8 And We made your sleep to be rest (to you), 9 and made the night a covering, 10 And made the day as a means of subsistence? 11 And constructed above you seven strong [heavens] 12 And placed a lamp therein brightly burning. 13 and have sent down out of the rainclouds water cascading 14 to make the seeds, plants, 15 and gardens dense with foliage. 16 Verily the Day of Sorting out is a thing appointed, 17 The day when the Trumpet will be blown – you will therefore come forth in multitudes. 18 and the heaven shall be opened, and become gates, 19 and the mountains are set in motion, and become a vapour. 20 Surely the Hell is an ambush, 21 a resort for the rebellious; 22 In which they will remain for ages [unending]. 23 They will not taste therein cool or any drink. 24 Save a boiling fluid and a fluid, dark, murky, intensely cold, 25 A fitting recompense (for them). 26 They were those who did not expect a reckoning, 27 and they cried loud lies to Our signs; 28 But all things We have enumerated in writing. 29 So taste (of that which ye have earned). No increase do We give you save of torment. 30
