The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
۞ ABOUT WHAT do they [most often] ask one another? 1 (It is) of the awful tidings, 2 Concerning which they differ. 3 By no means! anon they shall know. 4 Then, no! They are going to know. 5 Have We not made the earth an expanse, 6 And the mountains as stakes? 7 And We have created you in pairs (male and female, tall and short, good and bad, etc.). 8 and We have made your sleep [a symbol of] death 9 And We made the night to be a covering, 10 and We made the day for a livelihood. 11 And We built above you seven strong ones, 12 and placed in them a blazing lamp 13 and sent down heavy rains from the clouds 14 to make the seeds, plants, 15 And gardens thick with trees. 16 Surely, the Day of Judgement has an appointed time. 17 The day the trumpet blast is sounded you will come in hordes; 18 And the heaven is opened and will become gateways 19 And the mountains will be moved – they will therefore become like mirages. 20 Surely hell lies in wait, 21 For the exorbitant a receptacle. 22 for the rebellious ones and they will live therein for ages. 23 tasting therein neither coolness nor any drink 24 Except boiling water, and dirty wound discharges. 25 a fitting requital, 26 Behold, they were not expecting to be called to account, 27 And denied Our verses with [emphatic] denial. 28 and everything We have numbered in a Book. 29 Taste therefore. We shall not increase you in aught but torment. 30
