The News (Al-Naba')
40 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej) before The Snatchers (Al-Naze'aat)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ What are they asking each other about? 1 (Is it) of the great announcement 2 About which they cannot agree. 3 No! They are going to know. 4 Again, by no means! anon they shall know. 5 Have We not made the earth an expanse. 6 And the high hills bulwarks? 7 And (have We not) created you in pairs, 8 And made sleep for you to rest, 9 and made the night [its] cloak 10 and made the day [a symbol of] life. 11 And We have builded over you seven strong heavens. 12 And have made (therein) a shinning lamp (sun). 13 And do We not send down from the clouds water in abundance, 14 That We may produce therewith corn and vegetations, 15 and gardens dense with follage. 16 Surely the Day of Judgement has an appointed time; 17 The Day that the Trumpet shall be sounded, and ye shall come forth in crowds; 18 The heavens will be opened wide and turn into so many doors, 19 And the mountains are removed and will be [but] a mirage. 20 Truly Hell is as a place of ambush, 21 For the exorbitant a receptacle. 22 They will remain in it for ages. 23 They will neither taste anything cool in it, nor anything to drink. 24 Save a boiling fluid and a fluid, dark, murky, intensely cold, 25 Recompense fitted! 26 Indeed, they were not expecting an account 27 and they rejected outright Our signs; 28 and everything We have numbered in a Book. 29 Therefore taste it now We shall not increase anything for you except the punishment. 30

Notes and Instructions

When reading the Colorful Quran in English transliterated Arabic mode, you may not notice that there is an algorithm designed to match the pause requirements of the original Arabic scripture, (waqf signs). As you may know, the original Arabic Quran has five main types of pauses, (waqf) signs. (1) Compulsory break, where the transliteration uses a full stop. (2) Optional pause with the preference for pausing, where the transliteration uses a comma that may appear with a probability of two thirds. (3) Optional stop with an equal preference for pausing and resuming, where the transliteration uses a comma that may appear with a half-half probability. (4) Optional pause with the preference for resuming, where the transliteration uses a comma that may appear with a chance of one third. (5) Attraction pause, also called hugging, or (mu’anaka) sign, where it is compulsory to pause at either one of two nearby positions, but not both; where the transliteration inserts a comma at either one of the two locations with a half-half probability.
