The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
۞ About what are they asking one another? 1 Of the mighty tiding 2 on which they [so utterly] disagree. 3 Nay, but they will come to know! 4 Nay, again, they will come to know! 5 HAVE WE NOT made the earth a resting-place [for you,] 6 The mountains tent-pins? 7 And We created you in pairs, 8 And made your sleep [a means for] rest 9 and made the night [its] cloak 10 And the day for seeking livelihood. 11 And We have builded over you seven strong heavens. 12 and We have set therein a glowing lamp. 13 And We send down from the clouds water pouring forth abundantly, 14 That We may bring forth thereby corn and herbs, 15 and gardens dense with foliage. 16 VERILY, the Day of Distinction [between the true and the false] has indeed its appointed time: 17 the Day when the Trumpet shall be blown, and you will come forth in multitudes; 18 and heaven is opened, having gates, 19 and the mountains are set in motion, and become a vapour. 20 Hell will lie in wait (for its prey). 21 for the insolent a resort, 22 for the rebellious ones and they will live therein for ages. 23 They shall not taste therein cool nor drink 24 Except boiling water and benumbing cold: 25 A fitting recompense (for them). 26 They did not expect such a Judgment 27 And they belied Our revelations with strong belying. 28 and everything We have numbered in a Book. 29 Taste therefore. We shall not increase you in aught but torment. 30
