The News (Al-Naba')
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
۞ Of what do they ask one another? 1 About the great tidings! 2 Concerning which they are in disagreement. 3 Nay! they shall soon come to know 4 Nay, again, they will come to know! 5 Have We not spread the earth like a bed, 6 The mountains tent-pins? 7 Have We not created you in pairs, 8 And made sleep for you to rest, 9 and We made the night a mantle, 10 And We made the day for seeking livelihood. 11 and built above you seven strong firmaments, 12 And placed (therein) a Light of Splendour? 13 And sent down, from the rain clouds, pouring water 14 so that We may thereby bring forth grain and vegetation, 15 And gardens of entwined growth. 16 Surely the Day of Judgement has an appointed time; 17 The day the trumpet blast is sounded you will come in hordes; 18 The heavens will be opened wide and turn into so many doors, 19 The mountains will be driven away and become like mirages. 20 Lo! hell lurketh in ambush, 21 a resort for the rebellious; 22 therein they shall abide for ages, 23 They will not taste therein cool or any drink. 24 Save boiling water and a paralysing cold: 25 An appropriate recompense. 26 Indeed, they did not hope for a Reckoning, 27 They called Our revelations false with strong denial. 28 Everything have We recorded in a Book. 29 So taste you (the results of your evil actions); no increase shall We give you, except in torment. 30
