He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 Because there came to him the blind man. 2 for how can you know that he might seek to purify himself, 3 or receive some (Quranic) advice which would benefit him. 4 For him who does not care, 5 you eagerly attended to him -- 6 And no blame is on you if he would not purify himself 7 but as for one who comes to you, eagerly 8 And he fears, 9 him didst thou disregard! 10 Nay, (do not do like this), indeed it (these Verses of this Quran) are an admonition, 11 and whosoever wills, shall remember it. 12 Inscribed in Writs honoured, 13 Exalted (in dignity), purified, 14 (Set down) by scribes 15 Honourable and Pious and Just. 16 Woe to man! How ungrateful he is! 17 Of what [stuff] has He created him? 18 Of a drop of seed. He created him and formed him according to a measure. 19 Then eased the way for him. 20 Then He causes him to die, then assigns to him a grave, 21 and then, if it be His will, He shall raise him again to life, 22 Indeed, he has not fulfilled that which He has ordered him. 23 Let man consider his food: 24 How We poured down water in torrents, 25 and then We cleaved the earth asunder. 26 Thereby produced grain in it. 27 and vines, and reeds, 28 and olive trees and date-palms, 29 And enclosed gardens luxuriant. 30 And fruits and fodder,- 31 (These are made so as to be) means of enjoyment for you and your cattle. 32 But when the deafening cry shall be sounded 33 on that Day a man shall flee from his own brother, 34 and from his mother and father, 35 And his wife and his sons; 36 For every one of them on that Day shall be business enough to occupy 37 On that day faces will be bright as dawn, 38 laughing, rejoicing at glad tidings. 39 And other faces, on that day, with dust upon them, 40 Veiled in darkness, 41 These will be the faces of the sinful disbelievers. 42
