He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 Because there came to him the blind man, [interrupting]. 2 You never know. Perhaps he wanted to purify himself, 3 Or be admonished, and the admonition profit him? 4 As for he who thinks himself without need, 5 you attended to him, 6 And you have nothing to lose if he does not become pure. 7 And for him who came to you striving, 8 And he fears, 9 you pay no heed to him. 10 Nay, (do not do like this), indeed it (these Verses of this Quran) are an admonition, 11 Therefore let whoso will, keep it in remembrance. 12 (It is) in Books held (greatly) in honour, 13 Exalted, pure. 14 In the hands of scribes 15 noble and purified. 16 Be cursed (the disbelieving) man! How ungrateful he is! 17 From what has God created him? 18 Of a small seed; He created him, then He made him according to a measure, 19 Then made his passage easy (at birth); 20 then He caused him to die and brought him to the grave, 21 Then, when it is His Will, He will raise him up (again). 22 Not one – he has not yet completed what he was commanded. 23 Let man, then, consider [the sources of] his food: 24 How We pour water in showers 25 Then split the earth in clefts 26 and therein made the grains to grow 27 And grapes and vegetables 28 and olive trees and date-palms, 29 And gardens, dense with many trees, 30 And fruits and herbage: 31 as provision for you and for your cattle to enjoy. 32 And when the Blast shall sound, 33 On the day when a man fleeth from his brother 34 and from his mother and father, 35 And his wife and his children, 36 on that Day each will be occupied with his own business, making him oblivious of all save himself. 37 Some faces will on that Day be bright with happiness, 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news (of Paradise). 39 And faces on that Day! upon them shall be gloom. 40 and overcast with gloom: 41 those will be ones who denied the truth and were immersed in iniquity. 42
