He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away. 1 Because there came to him the blind man (i.e. 'Abdullah bin Umm-Maktum, who came to the Prophet (Peace be upon him) while he was preaching to one or some of the Quraish chiefs). 2 What could inform thee but that he might grow (in grace) 3 (He might) remember, and the Reminder might profit him. 4 For him who does not care, 5 To him dost thou attend; 6 What does it matter to you if he will not become pure (from disbelief, you are only a Messenger, your duty is to convey the Message of Allah). 7 As for him who comes to you striving (after goodness), 8 And is also fearful (of God), 9 to him thou payest no heed. 10 Nay, (do not do like this), indeed it (these Verses of this Quran) are an admonition, 11 For any one who desires to bear it in mind, 12 upon highly honored pages, 13 Exalted, purified, 14 Written by the hands of emissaries. 15 noble and purified. 16 Cursed be man! how ungrateful is he! 17 Of what thing did He create him? 18 Of a small seed; He created him, then He made him according to a measure, 19 Then (as for) the way-- He has made it easy (for him) 20 then He caused him to die and brought him to the grave, 21 Then He will raise him up again when He please. 22 Yet man declines to do His bidding. 23 Let man, then, consider [the sources of] his food: 24 We poured down rain abundantly, 25 and split the earth, splitting, 26 Thereby produced grain in it. 27 and vines, and reeds, 28 And Olives and Dates, 29 Orchards thick with trees, 30 And fruits and fodder,- 31 In order to benefit you and your cattle. 32 But when the deafening cry comes, 33 On the day when a man fleeth from his brother 34 his mother, his father, 35 As well as his wife and children. 36 on that Day each will be occupied with his own business, making him oblivious of all save himself. 37 On that day faces will be bright as dawn, 38 laughing, joyous; 39 And faces on that Day! upon them shall be gloom. 40 Veiled in darkness, 41 Those! they are the infidels, the ungodly. 42
