He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
۞ HE FROWNED AND turned away, 1 Because there came unto him a blind man. 2 How canst thou know, whether haply he might be cleansed, 3 or yet remember, and the Reminder profit him. 4 But the self-sufficient, 5 So you are after him! 6 although thou art not accountable for his failure to attain to purity; 7 As for the one who comes to you earnestly (striving for guidance). 8 And hath fear, 9 From him thou art distracted. 10 Indeed, this [Quran] is an admonition. 11 So whoso wills may give heed to it. 12 Inscribed in Writs honoured, 13 Exalted, purified, 14 by the hands of scribes 15 noble, pious. 16 Man is (self-)destroyed: how ungrateful! 17 From what thing doth He create him? 18 Out of a drop of sperm! He creates and proportions him, 19 Then maketh the way easy for him, 20 then causes him to die and buries him, 21 Then, when it is His Will, He will raise him up (again). 22 Nay, but man did not fulfil what Allah had enjoined upon him. 23 Let man, then, consider [the sources of] his food: 24 For that We pour forth water in abundance, 25 and then We cleaved the earth asunder. 26 We make the grain grow out of it, 27 grapes, vegetables, 28 And olives and date palms, 29 And garden-closes of thick foliage 30 And fruits and herbage: 31 (These are made so as to be) means of enjoyment for you and your cattle. 32 But when there comes the Deafening Blast 33 upon the day when a man shall flee from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father 35 his consort, his sons, 36 for on that day everyone will be completely engrossed in his own concerns. 37 [Some] faces, that Day, will be bright - 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news (of Paradise). 39 but others will be gloomy 40 Darkness will cover them, 41 these, these will be the ones who denied the truth and were immersed in iniquity! 42
