He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 from a blind man who had come up to him. 2 And what do you know, he may be of the pure! 3 or have been reminded [of the truth,] and helped by this reminder. 4 As for him who was indifferent, 5 you eagerly attended to him -- 6 though you are not to blame if he would not cleanse himself. 7 And for him who came to you striving, 8 While he fears [Allah], 9 You neglect. 10 By no means (should it be so)! For it is indeed a Message of instruction: 11 and whosoever wills, shall remember it. 12 It is contained in scrolls highly honoured, 13 Exalted and purified, 14 by the hands of scribes 15 Noble, virtuous. 16 Perish Man! How unthankful he is! 17 Out of what did Allah create him? 18 Out of a drop of sperm He creates him, and thereupon determines his nature, 19 Then doth He make His path smooth for him; 20 then makes him to die, and buries him, 21 Then when He pleases, He will raise him to life again. 22 By no means he performed not that which He had commanded him. 23 Let Man consider his nourishment. 24 [how it is] that We pour down water, pouring it down abundantly; 25 Then split the earth in clefts 26 And We made corn grow, 27 together with grapes and vegetables, 28 And Olives and Dates, 29 And enclosed gardens luxuriant. 30 And fruits and grass, 31 (To be) a provision and benefit for you and your cattle. 32 But when the deafening blast is sounded, 33 The day on which a man shall fly from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father 35 And his wife and his children, 36 on that Day every man among them will have enough concern of his own -- 37 Some faces will shine, 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 Some faces on that Day shall be dust-ridden, 40 Darkness will cover them, 41 Those are the disbelievers, the wicked ones. 42
