He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ He frowned and then turned away 1 when the blind man approached him, 2 for how can you know that he might seek to purify himself, 3 Or be reminded and the remembrance would benefit him? 4 As for him who thinks himself self-sufficient, 5 you eagerly attended to him -- 6 though it is not thy concern, if he does not cleanse himself. 7 But he who comes to you running, 8 and who has fear of God, 9 to him thou payest no heed. 10 Nay, (do not do like this), indeed it (these Verses of this Quran) are an admonition, 11 So whoever wills may remember it. 12 In honored books, 13 Exalted (in dignity), kept pure and holy, 14 borne by the hands of scribes, 15 Honourable and obedient. 16 May man be slain – how ungrateful he is! 17 Of what thing hath He created him? 18 From a drop of liquid; He created him and then set several measures for him. 19 Then He makes the Path easy for him; 20 Then causeth him to die, and burieth him; 21 Then when He pleases, He will raise him to life again. 22 Nay, but (man) has not done what He commanded him. 23 So let man just consider his food: 24 We poured down rain abundantly, 25 and cleaved the earth, cleaving it asunder; 26 how We made the grain to grow, 27 grapes, vegetables, 28 and olive trees and date-palms, 29 And enclosed gardens luxuriant. 30 fruits, and grass. 31 A provision for you and for your cattle. 32 AND SO, when the piercing call [of resurrection] is heard 33 on that Day each person will flee from his brother, 34 And from his mother and his father, 35 As well as his wife and children. 36 For every man, that Day, will be a matter adequate for him. 37 [Some] faces, that Day, will be bright - 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 And (many) faces on that day, on them shall be dust, 40 o'erspread with darkness -- 41 They will be the unbelievers, transgressors. 42
