He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
۞ HE FROWNED AND turned away, 1 that the blind man came to him. 2 How canst thou know, whether haply he might be cleansed, 3 Or that he might receive admonition, and the teaching might profit him? 4 Now as for him who believes himself to be self-sufficient 5 You pay full attention, 6 Though it is no blame to thee if he grow not (in spiritual understanding). 7 As for him who comes to you striving (after goodness), 8 And is afraid (of Allah and His Punishment), 9 From him you are distracted. 10 Assuredly this is a reminder 11 and whosoever wills, shall remember it. 12 (This Quran) is also recorded in honorable books, 13 lofty and pure, 14 by the hands of scribes 15 Noble and dutiful. 16 Accursed be man! How stubbornly he denies the Truth. 17 Of what thing did He create him? 18 Of a sperm-drop He created him, and determined him, 19 then the way eased for him, 20 He will then send him to death and have him laid in the grave. 21 Then when He pleases, He will bring him back to life. 22 By no means hath he fulfilled what Allah hath commanded him. 23 Let man look at his food: 24 We poured out the rains abundantly, 25 Then We cracked the earth open under pressure (of germination) 26 to yield therein corn, 27 grapes, and fresh fodder, 28 Olives and dates, 29 and dense-tree'd gardens, 30 And fruit and grass - 31 for you and for your herds to delight in. 32 But when the deafening blast is sounded, 33 it will be such a day when a person will run away from his brother, 34 and his mother and his father; 35 And from his wife and sons. 36 for on that day everyone will be completely engrossed in his own concerns. 37 Some faces on that day will be radiant, 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news; 39 And faces on that Day! upon them shall be gloom. 40 and veiled with darkness. 41 Those are the disbelievers, the wicked ones. 42
