He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
۞ He frowned and then turned away 1 when the blind man approached him, 2 How canst thou know, whether haply he might be cleansed, 3 (He might) remember, and the Reminder might profit him. 4 For him who does not care, 5 you eagerly attended to him -- 6 Whereas it is not on thee that he is not cleansed. 7 But as to him who came to you running. 8 And whereas he fears, 9 From him you are distracted. 10 No indeed; this is only a Reminder. 11 and so, whoever is willing may remember Him 12 In honored books, 13 Exalted, Purified, 14 By the hands of scribes. 15 noble and most virtuous. 16 [But only too often] man destroys himself: how stubbornly does he deny the truth! 17 [Does man ever consider] out of what substance [God] creates him? 18 From a drop of liquid; He created him and then set several measures for him. 19 Then eased the way for him. 20 Then He causes him to die and be buried. 21 Then He will raise him up again when He please. 22 No indeed! Man has not accomplished His bidding. 23 Let man reflect on the food he eats. 24 [how it is] that We pour down water, pouring it down abundantly; 25 Then We cleave the earth, cleaving (it) asunder, 26 then caused the grain to grow out of it, 27 And grapes and fodder, 28 olives, dates, 29 Orchards thick with trees, 30 and fruits and herbage, 31 (These are made so as to be) means of enjoyment for you and your cattle. 32 And when the Blast shall sound, 33 it will be such a day when a person will run away from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father 35 his wife and his sons: 36 Each man will have enough cares that day. 37 On that day faces will be bright as dawn, 38 Laughing, joyous. 39 Some faces on that Day shall be dust-ridden, 40 Dust shall cover them 41 Those are the disbelievers, the wicked ones. 42
