He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and then turned away 1 Because there came to him the blind man (interrupting). 2 How could you know? Perhaps he would cleanse himself, 3 or yet remember, and the Reminder profit him. 4 As for he who is sufficed 5 you eagerly attended to him -- 6 And not upon you [is any blame] if he will not be purified. 7 But as to him who came to thee striving earnestly, 8 And is also fearful (of God), 9 So you leave him, and are engrossed elsewhere! 10 By no means (should it be so)! For it is indeed a Message of instruction: 11 Let him who will, pay heed to it. 12 It is set down on honoured pages, 13 Exalted and holy, 14 [Carried] by the hands of messenger-angels, 15 Noble, virtuous. 16 [But only too often] man destroys himself: how stubbornly does he deny the truth! 17 Of what thing did He create him? 18 Out of a drop of sperm! He creates and proportions him, 19 Then made his passage easy (at birth); 20 Then causeth him to die, and burieth him; 21 and then, whenever He wishes, He will raise him back to life. 22 Nay, but (man) has not done what He commanded him. 23 Let Man consider his nourishment. 24 For that We pour forth water in abundance, 25 And We split the earth in fragments, 26 And produce therein corn, 27 And grapes and herbage, 28 Olives and dates, 29 And dense gardens, 30 and fruit and pastures, 31 for you and for your animals to enjoy. 32 But when the deafening cry comes, 33 The day on which a man shall fly from his brother, 34 his mother, his father, 35 his wife and his children. 36 for on that day everyone will be completely engrossed in his own concerns. 37 Some faces will shine, 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news (of Paradise). 39 whereas some faces will be covered with dust 40 and overcast with gloom: 41 Those! they are the infidels, the ungodly. 42
