He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 because the blind man approached him! 2 Yet for all thou didst know, [O Muhammad,] he might perhaps have grown in purity, 3 (He might) remember, and the Reminder might profit him. 4 As for he who thinks himself without need, 5 you attended to him, 6 And not upon you [is any blame] if he will not be purified. 7 But as to him who came to you running. 8 And is also fearful (of God), 9 From him you are distracted. 10 These verses are a reminder 11 So let whosoever will pay heed to it, 12 It is contained in scrolls highly honoured, 13 exalted, purified, 14 by the hands of scribes 15 Who are noble, virtuous. 16 May (the disbelieving) human being be condemned! What makes him disbelieve? 17 From what thing doth He create him? 18 Out of a drop of sperm! He creates and proportions him, 19 then the way eased for him, 20 Then He causeth him to die, and putteth him in his grave; 21 Then, when it is His Will, He will raise him up (again). 22 No! Man has not yet accomplished what He commanded him. 23 Let man therefore consider (the sources of) his food. 24 That We watered it in abundance. 25 Then We broke open the earth, splitting [it with sprouts], 26 Then We cause to grow therein the grain, 27 grapes, vegetables, 28 And olive-trees and palm-trees 29 and burgeoning enclosed gardens 30 And fruits and herbage: 31 all this as a provision for you and your cattle. 32 Then when cometh the Deafening Cry 33 Man will fly from his brother, 34 his mother, his father, 35 wife and sons, 36 for on that day everyone will be completely engrossed in his own concerns. 37 Some faces on that Day shall be beaming with happiness, 38 laughing and joyful, 39 And other faces that Day will be dust-stained, 40 and veiled with darkness. 41 They will be the unbelievers, transgressors. 42
