He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 Because there came to him the blind man. 2 What could inform thee but that he might grow (in grace) 3 Or that he might receive admonition, and the teaching might profit him? 4 As for him who thinketh himself independent, 5 to him didst thou give thy whole attention, 6 although thou art not accountable for his failure to attain to purity; 7 but as for him who came unto thee full of eagerness 8 And he feareth 9 So you leave him, and are engrossed elsewhere! 10 These verses are a reminder 11 (and whoso wills, shall remember it) 12 On honoured leaves 13 Exalted (in dignity), purified, 14 In the hands of scribes 15 and angelic scribes. 16 [But only too often] man destroys himself: how stubbornly does he deny the truth! 17 From what thing did He create him? 18 He created him from a living germ. He determined his fate 19 Then doth He make His path smooth for him; 20 Then gave him death, so had him put in the grave. 21 Then when He wills, He will resurrect him. 22 Indeed, he has not fulfilled that which He has ordered him. 23 Then let man look at his food, (and how We provide it): 24 That We pour down the water, pouring (it) down in abundance, 25 and let the earth to break open 26 how We made the grain to grow, 27 and vines, and reeds, 28 And olives and date palms, 29 And gardens, dense with many trees, 30 And fruits and fodder: 31 For use and convenience to you and your cattle. 32 When the trumpet sounds, 33 The day on which a man shall fly from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father, 35 And his wife and his children, 36 on that Day every man among them will have enough concern of his own -- 37 Some faces will on that Day be bright with happiness, 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 And other faces, on that day, with dust upon them, 40 with darkness overspread: 41 Those are the disbelievers, the wicked. 42
