He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 that the blind man came to him. 2 But what would make you perceive, [O Muhammad], that perhaps he might be purified 3 or yet remember, and the Reminder profit him. 4 As for he who thinks himself without need, 5 To him you give attention. 6 And you have nothing to lose if he does not become pure. 7 But as to him who came to you running. 8 And hath fear, 9 him didst thou disregard! 10 By no means! Verily it is an admonition. 11 So let whosoever will pay heed to it, 12 In honored books, 13 exalted, purified, 14 by the hands of scribes 15 Honourable and Virtuous. 16 Woe to man! How ungrateful he is! 17 Of what substance God created him? 18 Out of a drop of sperm He creates him, and thereupon determines his nature, 19 Then He makes the Path easy for him; 20 Then He causes him to die, then assigns to him a grave, 21 Then when He wills, He will resurrect him. 22 But no. He has not fulfilled what was enjoined on him. 23 Then let man look to his food, 24 how We pour down rain in abundance, 25 And We split the earth in fragments, 26 to yield therein corn, 27 and vines and edible plants, 28 And Olives and Dates, 29 Orchards thick with trees, 30 and fruits and herbage, 31 For use and convenience to you and your cattle. 32 When the trumpet sounds, 33 on the Day when each man shall flee from his brother, 34 Mother and father, 35 his wife and his sons: 36 On that day, each one has just one issue, which is enough for him. 37 Some faces that Day will be beaming, 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 And some faces will on that Day with dust be covered, 40 and veiled with darkness. 41 Such will be the Kafarah (disbelievers in Allah, in His Oneness, and in His Messenger Muhammad (Peace be upon him), etc.), the Fajarah (wicked evil doers). 42
