The Night (Al-Layl)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By oath of the night when it covers 1 And by oath of the day when it shines 2 And the creating of the male and the female, 3 surely your strivings are divergent. 4 Then as for him who giveths and feareth Him. 5 and affirmed the Truth of goodness: 6 We will ease him toward ease. 7 But for those who are niggardly, horde their wealth, 8 and cries lies to the reward most fair, 9 We will indeed make smooth for him the path to Misery; 10 and what will his wealth avail him when he goes down [to his grave]? 11 BEHOLD, it is indeed for Us to grace [you] with guidance; 12 And lo! unto Us belong the latter portion and the former. 13 I have warned you about the fierce blazing fire 14 whereat none but the most wretched shall be roasted, 15 who gives the lie to the truth and turns away [from it]. 16 But the righteous one will avoid it - 17 Who gives away his wealth, purifying himself 18 And have in his mind no favour from anyone for which a reward is expected in return, 19 Except only the desire to seek the Countenance of his Lord, the Most High; 20 and the reward (of their Lord) will certainly make them happy. 21
