He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ He frowned and turned away. 1 when the blind man approached him, 2 What made you think that he will not grow in virtue, 3 Or be admonished, and the admonition profit him? 4 Now he who waxes indifferent, 5 you attended to him, 6 though you are not to blame if he would not cleanse himself. 7 As for the one who comes to you earnestly (striving for guidance). 8 While he fears [Allah], 9 You neglect. 10 Nay, but verily it is an Admonishment, 11 so let those who want to follow its guidance do so. 12 It is contained in scrolls highly honoured, 13 exalted, purified, 14 by the hands of scribes 15 Noble and dutiful. 16 Woe to man! How ungrateful he is! 17 From what has God created him? 18 Of a sperm-drop He created him, and determined him, 19 Then doth He make His path smooth for him; 20 then makes him to die, and buries him, 21 Then when He listeth, He shall raise him to life. 22 Certainly, he has not duly fulfilled His commands. 23 Let the human reflect on the food he eats, 24 We poured out the rains abundantly, 25 Then We cracked the earth open under pressure (of germination) 26 then caused the grain to grow out of it, 27 grapes, and fresh fodder, 28 and olive trees and date-palms, 29 and burgeoning enclosed gardens 30 And fruits and herbage: 31 In order to benefit you and your cattle. 32 But when there comes the Deafening Blast 33 Man will fly from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father 35 and his consort and his children; 36 Everyone on that Day will have affairs to keep him occupied. 37 Some faces will shine, 38 Laughing, joyous. 39 And other faces, on that day, with dust upon them, 40 o'erspread with darkness -- 41 These will be the unbelievers, the wicked. 42
