He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 Because a blind man came to him. 2 And what could let you know? Perhaps he (comes to hear you) to be purified. 3 or have been reminded [of the truth,] and helped by this reminder. 4 Yet you pay attention 5 you attend to him, 6 Whereas it is not on thee that he is not cleansed. 7 And he who comes to thee eagerly 8 And he feareth 9 Him thou neglectest! 10 By no means (should it be so)! For it is indeed a Message of instruction: 11 So whoever wills may remember it. 12 Inscribed in Writs honoured, 13 uplifted, purified, 14 [Carried] by the hands of messenger-angels, 15 and angelic scribes. 16 Accursed is man. How ungrateful is he! 17 Of what thing hath He created him? 18 From a sperm-drop He created him and destined for him; 19 then the way eased for him, 20 Then He causes him to die, then assigns to him a grave, 21 Then, when it is His Will, He will resurrect him (again). 22 But no. He has not fulfilled what was enjoined on him. 23 Let the human reflect on the food he eats, 24 how We pour down rain in abundance, 25 Then We split the earth properly. 26 Then We cause to grow therein the grain, 27 And grapes and herbage, 28 olives, dates, 29 the densely tree'd gardens, 30 and fruit and pastures, 31 For use and convenience to you and your cattle. 32 Then, when there comes As-Sakhkhah (the Day of Resurrection's second blowing of Trumpet), 33 on the Day when each man shall flee from his brother, 34 and from his mother and father, 35 And his wife and his children, 36 For every man, that Day, will be a matter adequate for him. 37 Some faces that Day, will be bright (true believers of Islamic Monotheism). 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news. 39 Some faces on that Day shall be dust-ridden, 40 Darkness shall cover them. 41 These will be the faces of the sinful disbelievers. 42
