He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ He frowned and then turned away 1 because the blind man approached him! 2 And what could let you know? Perhaps he (comes to hear you) to be purified. 3 Or take heed and so the reminder might avail him? 4 As for him who thinks himself self-sufficient, 5 you attend to him, 6 And you have nothing to lose if he does not become pure. 7 And he who comes to thee eagerly 8 And he fears, 9 you pay no heed to him. 10 By no means (should it be so)! For it is indeed a Message of instruction: 11 (and whoso wills, shall remember it) 12 It is contained in scrolls highly honoured, 13 Exalted, purified, 14 In the hands of scribes (angels). 15 noble and most virtuous. 16 May (the disbelieving) human being be condemned! What makes him disbelieve? 17 Of what thing did He create him? 18 Of a small seed; He created him, then He made him according to a measure, 19 Then maketh the way easy for him, 20 Then He causes him to die and be buried. 21 then, when He wills, He raises him. 22 Yet man declines to do His bidding. 23 Let man therefore consider (the sources of) his food. 24 How We pour water in showers 25 and cleaved the earth, cleaving it asunder; 26 And caused to grow within it grain 27 And grapes and fodder, 28 And the olive and the palm, 29 and gardens dense with foliage, 30 and fruits and pastures – 31 (These are made so as to be) means of enjoyment for you and your cattle. 32 But when there comes the Deafening Blast 33 On the day when a man fleeth from his brother 34 And his mother and his father 35 And his wife and his sons; 36 every man that day shall have business to suffice him. 37 Faces on that Day shall be beaming, 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news. 39 whereas some faces will be covered with dust 40 and covered by darkness. 41 They will be the unbelievers, transgressors. 42
