He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ He frowned and turned (his) back, 1 Because the blind man came unto him. 2 But what could tell thee but that perchance he might grow (in spiritual understanding)?- 3 Or be reminded and the remembrance would benefit him? 4 As to one who regards Himself as self-sufficient, 5 to him thou attendest 6 though it is not thy concern, if he does not cleanse himself. 7 But as for him who cometh unto thee with earnest purpose 8 And is afraid (of Allah and His Punishment), 9 From him thou art distracted. 10 Not this way – this is the advice. 11 and so, whoever is willing may remember Him 12 On honoured leaves 13 Exalted and holy, 14 by the hands of the noble, virtuous, 15 noble and purified. 16 [But only too often] man destroys himself: how stubbornly does he deny the truth! 17 [Does man ever consider] out of what substance [God] creates him? 18 Out of a drop of sperm! He creates and proportions him, 19 Then maketh the way easy for him, 20 then makes him to die, and buries him, 21 and He will resurrect him whenever He wants. 22 But no. He has not fulfilled what was enjoined on him. 23 Let man therefore consider (the sources of) his food. 24 That We pour down the water, pouring (it) down in abundance, 25 Then split the earth in clefts 26 And cause the grain to grow therein 27 And Grapes and nutritious plants, 28 And olives and date-palms, 29 and dense-tree'd gardens, 30 And fruits and grasses: 31 an enjoyment for you and your flocks. 32 Then, when there comes As-Sakhkhah (the Day of Resurrection's second blowing of Trumpet), 33 Man will fly from his brother, 34 his mother, his father, 35 And his wife and his sons; 36 Everyone on that Day will have affairs to keep him occupied. 37 [Some] faces, that Day, will be bright - 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news. 39 And (many) faces on that day, on them shall be dust, 40 enveloped by darkness. 41 those -- they are the unbelievers, the libertines. 42
