He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 Because there came to him the blind man. 2 What made you think that he will not grow in virtue, 3 or receive some (Quranic) advice which would benefit him. 4 As for him who regardeth himself self-sufficient 5 Unto him thou payest regard. 6 Though it is not your concern if he should not grow (in fulness). 7 And as for him who cometh unto thee running, 8 And whereas he fears, 9 You neglect. 10 By no means! Verily it is an admonition. 11 (and whoso wills, shall remember it) 12 upon pages high-honoured, 13 Exalted and holy, 14 [Carried] by the hands of messenger-angels, 15 Noble, virtuous. 16 Woe to man! How ungrateful he is! 17 From what has God created him? 18 He created him from a living germ. He determined his fate 19 Then eased the way for him. 20 Then He causeth him to die, and putteth him in his grave; 21 Then, when it is His Will, He will resurrect him (again). 22 Nay, but (man) has not done what He commanded him. 23 Let the human reflect on the food he eats, 24 We poured water, pouring it in great abundance, 25 Then split the earth in clefts 26 And cause the grain to grow therein 27 And grapes and clover, 28 and olive trees and date-palms, 29 the densely tree'd gardens, 30 and fruits and herbage, 31 for you and for your herds to delight in. 32 But when the great calamity comes 33 On the Day whereon a man shall flee from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father 35 As well as his wife and children. 36 Every man of them shall on that day have an affair which will occupy him. 37 (Many) faces on that day shall be bright, 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news (of Paradise). 39 And many will be dust-begrimed, 40 with darkness overspread: 41 Those are the disbelievers, the wicked. 42
