He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 from a blind man who had come up to him. 2 How could you know? Perhaps he would cleanse himself, 3 Or be reminded and the remembrance would benefit him? 4 For him who does not care, 5 to a rich man, 6 although it is not for you to be concerned if he remained unpurified. 7 And he who comes to thee eagerly 8 and fearfully, 9 you pay him no heed. 10 Nay, (do not do like this), indeed it (these Verses of this Quran) are an admonition, 11 So whoever wills, let him pay attention to it. 12 (It is) in Books held (greatly) in honour, 13 Exalted and purified, 14 In the hands of scribes 15 Noble, virtuous. 16 [But only too often] man destroys himself: how stubbornly does he deny the truth! 17 From what thing did He create him? 18 From a (sperm) drop He created him and then determined him, 19 Then (as for) the way-- He has made it easy (for him) 20 then makes him to die, and buries him, 21 Then when He pleases, He will raise him to life again. 22 Nay, but [man] has never yet fulfilled what He has enjoined upon him! 23 Then let man look to his food, 24 That We pour forth water in abundance, 25 and cleaved the earth, cleaving it asunder; 26 And We made corn grow, 27 And grapes and green fodder 28 and the olive, and the palm, 29 and burgeoning enclosed gardens 30 And fruits and grasses: 31 for you and for your animals to enjoy. 32 Then, when there comes As-Sakhkhah (the Day of Resurrection's second blowing of Trumpet), 33 upon the day when a man shall flee from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father 35 his wife and his sons: 36 Everyman, that Day, will have enough to make him careless of others. 37 On that day faces will be bright as dawn, 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news; 39 And (many) faces on that day, on them shall be dust, 40 Darkness will cover them, 41 these, these will be the ones who denied the truth and were immersed in iniquity! 42
