He Frowned ('Abasa)
42 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Stars (Al-Najm) before Destiny (Al-Qadr)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ He frowned and turned away. 1 Because there came to him the blind man, [interrupting]. 2 Yet for all thou didst know, [O Muhammad,] he might perhaps have grown in purity, 3 or yet remember, and the Reminder profit him. 4 As for him who was indifferent, 5 to him thou attendest 6 although thou art not accountable for his failure to attain to purity; 7 But as to him who came to thee striving earnestly, 8 While he fears [Allah], 9 you pay him no heed. 10 Nay! surely it is an admonishment. 11 So whosoever willeth - let him be admonished therewlth. 12 [It is recorded] in honored sheets, 13 most exalted and purified, 14 (Set down) by scribes 15 Honourable and obedient. 16 May (the disbelieving) human being be condemned! What makes him disbelieve? 17 Of what thing did He create him? 18 Out of a drop of sperm He creates him, and thereupon determines his nature, 19 Then He makes the Path easy for him; 20 Then He causeth him to die, and putteth him in his grave; 21 Then, when He will, He bringeth him again to life. 22 Nay, but (man) has not done what He commanded him. 23 Let man therefore consider (the sources of) his food. 24 We poured out the rains abundantly, 25 and split the earth, splitting, 26 And cause the grain to grow therein 27 and grape vines and vegetables, 28 and olive trees and date palms 29 And gardens, dense with many trees, 30 And fruits and Abba (herbage, etc.), 31 for you and for your herds to delight in. 32 But when the deafening cry shall be sounded 33 on the Day when each man shall flee from his brother, 34 And from his mother and father, 35 And his wife and his children, 36 for on that day everyone will be completely engrossed in his own concerns. 37 Many faces will that day be bright, 38 Laughing and full of joy, 39 And other faces that Day will be dust-stained, 40 and covered by darkness. 41 those -- they are the unbelievers, the libertines. 42
God Almighty has spoken the truth.
