He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 from a blind man who had come up to him. 2 And what should teach thee? Perchance he would cleanse him, 3 Or that he might receive admonition, and the teaching might profit him? 4 As for he who thinks himself without need, 5 Unto him thou attendest. 6 though it is not thy concern, if he does not cleanse himself. 7 But as to him who came to thee striving earnestly, 8 and fearfully, 9 you pay no heed to him. 10 These verses are a reminder 11 So whosoever willeth - let him be admonished therewlth. 12 (It is) in Books held (greatly) in honour, 13 lofty and pure, 14 By the hands of scribes. 15 Honourable and obedient. 16 Perish man! how ungrateful he is! 17 From what substance did He create him? 18 Of a sperm-drop He created him, and determined him, 19 then eased his path for him, 20 Then He causes him to die, and puts him in his grave; 21 Then when He wills, He will resurrect him. 22 Yet man declines to do His bidding. 23 Let man, then, consider [the sources of] his food: 24 We poured out the rains abundantly, 25 Then We split the earth properly. 26 to yield therein corn, 27 and vines and edible plants, 28 and the olive, and the palm, 29 And thick gardens, 30 And fruits and fodder: 31 A provision for you and for your cattle. 32 But when the Shout cometh 33 On the Day whereon a man shall flee from his brother, 34 And from his mother and father, 35 And his wife and his children, 36 Everyone on that Day will have affairs to keep him occupied. 37 Some faces that Day, will be bright (true believers of Islamic Monotheism). 38 laughing, rejoicing at glad tidings. 39 some faces on that day shall be dusty 40 enveloped by darkness. 41 those -- they are the unbelievers, the libertines. 42
