The Rolling (Al-Takweer)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
When the sunlight is rolled up. 1 When the stars fall, losing their lustre; 2 the mountains are scattered about as dust, 3 when the pregnant camels shall be neglected, 4 the wild beasts are herded together, 5 and when the seas boil over, 6 when the souls are divided into different classes, 7 and when the girl-child buried alive shall be asked: 8 for what offence was she killed? 9 When the scrolls are laid open; 10 and when heaven is laid bare, 11 When Hell is set ablaze, 12 And when Paradise is brought near, 13 then shall each person know what he has brought along. 14 No indeed; I swear by the alternating stars 15 The planets withdrawing into themselves, 16 And by the night as it closes in 17 And the morning when it brightens, 18 That this is indeed the word of an honoured Messenger, 19 The processor of strength, having an honorable place with the Lord of the Dominion, 20 obeyed, and honest. 21 For, this fellow-man of yours is not a madman: 22 Surely he beheld Him on the clear horizon. 23 Nor of the unseen is he a tenacious concealer. 24 And the Qur'an is not the word of a devil, expelled [from the heavens]. 25 Whither then will you go? 26 This is a reminder for all the peoples of the world, 27 to everyone of you who wills to walk a straight way. 28 And ye will not, unless (it be) that Allah willeth, the Lord of Creation. 29
