The Cheaters (Al-Mutaffifeen)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
Woe to Al-Mutaffifin [those who give less in measure and weight (decrease the rights of others)], 1 Who insist on being given full when they take from others, 2 but when they measure or weigh, give less. 3 Do such (men) not consider that they will be raised again 4 On a mighty Day. 5 a day when mankind shall stand before the Lord of all Being? 6 Nay! Truly, the Record (writing of the deeds) of the Fujjar (disbelievers, sinners, evil-doers and wicked) is (preserved) in Sijjin. 7 and what could make you understand what the Sijjin is? -- 8 It is [their destination recorded in] a register inscribed. 9 Woe that day unto those who cry it lies, 10 Those who belie the Day of Requital. 11 No one rejects it except the sinful transgressors 12 When Our revelations are conveyed to him, he says, "Fables of the ancients!" 13 Not at all – but rather their earnings have heaped rust upon their hearts. 14 On the Day of Judgment, they will certainly be barred from the mercy of their Lord. 15 Then indeed, they will [enter and] burn in Hellfire. 16 Then shall it be said: This is what you gave the lie to. 17 But, the record of the righteous is [preserved] in the 'Illiyyin -- 18 And what will make you know what 'Illiyyun is? 19 The record is a sealed text. 20 witnessed by those brought nigh. 21 Verily the virtuous shall be in Delight, 22 seated on couches and gazing around in wonder. 23 On their faces you will see the glow of beatitude. 24 They are given to drink of a pure wine, sealed, 25 its seal will be of musk -- for this let the aspirants aspire -- 26 And admixture thereof will be Water of Tasnim: 27 a source [of bliss] whereof those who are drawn close unto God shall drink. 28 Behold, the wicked were wont to laugh at the believers: 29 when them passed them by winking at one another, 30 And when they went back to their people turned to make fun of them; 31 And when they saw them, they would say, "Indeed, those are truly lost." 32 Yet they were not sent as guardians over them. 33 So today the believers are laughing at the unbelievers, 34 [for, resting in paradise] on couches, they will look on [and say to themselves]: 35 Will not the Unbelievers have been paid back for what they did? 36
