The Splitting (Al-Inshiqaaq)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
۞ When the heavens are rent asunder 1 and gives ear to its Lord, and is fitly disposed; 2 And when the earth has been extended 3 and casts out what is within it and is emptied, 4 And hearkens to its Lord and is dutiful, 5 O man! Verily, you are returning towards your Lord with your deeds and actions (good or bad), a sure returning, so you will meet (i.e. the results of your deeds which you did). 6 So whoever is given his record of deeds in his right hand – 7 Soon an easy account will be taken from him. 8 and they will return to their people, delighted 9 But as for he who is given his record behind his back, 10 shall cry for “perdition,” 11 and he will enter the blazing flame. 12 He verily lived joyous with his folk, 13 and had thought that they would never be brought back to life again. 14 Yea! his Lord had ever been beholding him. 15 Nay; I swear by the twilight; 16 and by the night and what it enfolds, 17 And the moon when at the full, 18 Surely ye shall ride layer upon layer. 19 What is the matter with them that they do not accept faith? 20 And when the Qur'an is read to them, they fall not prostrate, ۩ 21 But those who have disbelieved deny, 22 but God knows best whatever they accumulate in their hearts. 23 So announce to them a Penalty Grievous, 24 Except to those who believe and work righteous deeds: For them is a Reward that will never fail. 25
