He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ (The Prophet) frowned and turned away, 1 when the blind came to him. 2 How could you know? Perhaps he would cleanse himself, 3 Or be admonished, so that the admonition might have profited him? 4 As for him who considers himself free from need (of you), 5 you attend to him, 6 What does it matter to you if he will not become pure (from disbelief, you are only a Messenger, your duty is to convey the Message of Allah). 7 As for the one who comes to you earnestly (striving for guidance). 8 and fearfully, 9 of him you were unmindful. 10 No! Indeed, these verses are a reminder; 11 For any one who desires to bear it in mind, 12 On honoured leaves 13 exalted and purified, 14 by the hands of scribes 15 Noble and pious. 16 Woe to man! How ungrateful he is! 17 Of what substance God created him? 18 From a drop of liquid; He created him and then set several measures for him. 19 and made the path of guidance easy for him to follow. 20 Then gave him death, so had him put in the grave. 21 and then, whenever He wishes, He will raise him back to life. 22 But no. He has not fulfilled what was enjoined on him. 23 So man must look at his food. 24 That We pour down the water, pouring (it) down in abundance, 25 then We split the earth in fissures 26 We make the grain grow out of it, 27 together with grapes and vegetables, 28 And olives and palms 29 And thick gardens, 30 And fruits and fodder: 31 an enjoyment for you and your flocks. 32 So when the deafening Shout arrives, 33 Man will fly from his brother, 34 mother, father, 35 and his consort and his children; 36 For every man, that Day, will be a matter adequate for him. 37 On that day faces will be bright as dawn, 38 Laughing, joyous. 39 And [other] faces, that Day, will have upon them dust. 40 Blackness will cover them: 41 They will be the unbelievers, transgressors. 42
