The Splitting (Al-Inshiqaaq)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
۞ When the heaven is sundered. 1 and hearkens to the command of its Lord, doing what it should; 2 when the earth flattens out, 3 And has cast out that within it and relinquished [it] 4 and hearkens to the command of its Lord, doing what it should. 5 O man! surely you must strive (to attain) to your Lord, a hard striving until you meet Him. 6 Then as for him who is given his book in his right hand, 7 shall have an easy reckoning 8 And will return unto his folk in joy. 9 But he who is given his ledger from behind his back 10 shall cry for “perdition,” 11 and he will enter the blazing flame. 12 He once lived among his family joyfully; 13 Verily, he thought that he would never come back (to Us)! 14 Surely yes, why not? Indeed his Lord is seeing him. 15 No! I swear by the twilight 16 And the night and that which it drives on, 17 And by the moon when she becometh full. 18 you shall surely ride stage after stage. 19 So, what is the matter with them that they do not believe, 20 and when the Koran is recited to them that they do not prostrate! ۩ 21 Nay, but they who are bent on denying the truth give the lie [to this divine writ]! 22 But God knows what they harbour in their breasts. 23 Therefore give to them glad tidings of a painful punishment, 24 except to those who believe, and do righteous deeds, for theirs is an unfailing recompense. 25
