The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
By the heaven, and At-Tariq (the night-comer, i.e. the bright star); 1 And what shall teach thee what is the night-star? 2 (It is) the star of piercing brightness; 3 There is no living being but there is a protector over it. 4 So let man consider of what he is created: 5 He was created from a fluid, ejected, 6 issuing from between the backbone and the breastbone: 7 Now, verily, He [who thus creates man in the first instance] is well able to bring him back [to life] 8 upon the day when the secrets are tried, 9 Then will (man) have no power, nor any helper. 10 By the heaven which giveth the returning rain, 11 And by oath of the earth which flourishes with it. 12 Verily, it is a discourse distinguishing. 13 And it is not a thing for amusement. 14 Behold, they [who refuse to accept it] devise many a false argument [to disprove its truth]; 15 And I am planning a scheme. 16 so bear with those who deny the truth, and let them be for a little while. 17
