The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
I swear by the heaven and the comer by night; 1 Do you know what al-tariq is? 2 (It is) the piercing star. 3 There is no soul which is not guarded (by the two angels who record all of its deeds). 4 Now let man but think from what he is created! 5 He was created of spurting water 6 That issueth from between the loins and the breast-bones. 7 Now, verily, He [who thus creates man in the first instance] is well able to bring him back [to life] 8 The Day when all the secrets (deeds, prayers, fasting, etc.) will be examined (as to their truth). 9 He will have no strength or helper. 10 By the heaven with its recurring cycle of rain, 11 and by the earth bursting with vegetation; 12 It is surely a decisive utterance; 13 It is not a thing for amusement. 14 Indeed the disbelievers carry out their evil schemes. 15 And I (too) will make a scheme. 16 so bear with those who deny the truth, and let them be for a little while. 17
