The Comet (Al-Taareq)
17 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Town (Al-Balad) before The Moon (Al-Qamar)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
By oath of the heaven, and by oath of the nightly arriver. 1 And what could make thee conceive what it is that comes in the night? 2 It is the star that pierces through [life's] darkness: 3 [for] no human being has been left unguarded. 4 So let man consider of what he was created; 5 He was created of a gushing fluid, 6 Coming from between the back and the ribs. 7 Surely He (the Creator) has the power to bring him back (to life). 8 The day all secrets are examined 9 So man will neither have any strength nor any aide. 10 By the rotating heavens 11 And by the earth which splitteth, 12 this is indeed a Decisive Word, 13 And it is not a thing for amusement. 14 Indeed, they are planning a plan, 15 and I too am devising a guile. 16 So give a respite to the disbelievers. Deal you gently with them for a while. 17
