Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
Has there come to you the narration of the overwhelming (i.e. the Day of Resurrection); 1 On that day the faces of some people will be humbly cast down, 2 labouring, toilworn, 3 They will suffer the heat of the blazing fire 4 Drinking from a boiling spring, 5 For them there will be no food except from a poisonous, thorny plant 6 which gives no strength and neither stills hunger. 7 [And] some faces will on that Day shine with bliss, 8 well pleased with the result of their striving, 9 They shall be in a Garden lofty: 10 Never hearing idle talk. 11 Wherein is a gushing spring, 12 And within it are couches placed on high, 13 Goblets placed (ready), 14 And cushions ranged! 15 and carpets spread out. 16 So do they not see the camel – how it has been created? 17 And the heavens, how it was raised high; 18 And the mountains, how they are firmly fixed, 19 how the earth was outstretched? 20 (Muhammad), preach; you are only a preacher. 21 You are not at all a guardian over them. 22 But whoever turns back and denies the truth, 23 him will God cause to suffer the greatest suffering [in the life to come]: 24 To Us is surely their returning; 25 Then verily on Us is their reckoning. 26
