Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
Certainly the news of the calamity that will overwhelm has come to you! 1 Faces on that day humbled, 2 Toiling, weary, 3 they shall enter a burning Fire 4 their drink shall be from a boiling spring. 5 No food will there be for them but a poisonous thorny plant, 6 Which will neither nourish nor avail against hunger. 7 However, on that day the faces of other people will be happy. 8 well-pleased with [the fruit of] their striving, 9 In a lofty Paradise. 10 wherein thou wilt hear no empty talk. 11 Therein will be a running spring, 12 and couches raised high, 13 and goblets set at hand, 14 Cushions arranged, 15 and rich carpets levelled out. 16 DO, THEN, they [who deny resurrection] never gaze at the clouds pregnant with water, [and observe] how they are created? 17 And the heavens, how it was raised high; 18 how the mountains were hoisted, 19 And at the Earth, how it is spread out? 20 So render good counsel, for you are simply required to counsel, 21 thou art not charged to oversee them. 22 But he who turns his back, and disbelieves, 23 Him Allah shall torment with the greatest torment. 24 Certainly, it is to Us that they will return. 25 Then verily, for Us will be their reckoning. 26
