Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
HAS THERE COME unto thee the tiding of the Overshadowing Event? 1 On that day the faces of some people will be humbly cast down, 2 Labouring, striving hard. 3 They will [enter to] burn in an intensely hot Fire. 4 Made to drink from a boiling spring. 5 No food will there be for them but a poisonous thorny plant, 6 Which doth not nourish nor release from hunger. 7 (Other) faces on that day shall be happy, 8 Rejoicing over their efforts. 9 In a lofty Paradise. 10 Where they shall hear no (word) of vanity: 11 In it is a flowing spring. 12 Therein shall be couches elevated! 13 and goblets laid out, 14 And cushions set in rows, 15 and carpets spread out. 16 Have they not looked at how the camel is created, 17 And the heaven, how it is raised? 18 And at the mountains, how they are rooted? 19 And at the earth - how it is spread out? 20 And so, [O Prophet,] exhort them; thy task is only to exhort: 21 You do not have full control over them. 22 But whoever turns back and denies the truth, 23 Allah will punish him with a mighty Punishment, 24 Indeed only towards Us is their return 25 Then surely upon Us is the taking of their account. 26
